WELCOME TO MEROVING ARCHITECTEN
FOR ME, ARCHITECTURE BEGINS WITH DIRECTION
AT THE MOMENT WHEN QUESTIONS BECOME CLEAR
AND CHOICES GET MEANING
Designing is asking the right questions

Welcome to MEROVING Architects
Through MEROVING Architecten, I work as an independent architect and consultant on projects and processes where content, process, and collaboration converge. My focus lies primarily in the early development and design phases, where there is room to set the course and establish coherence.

How I work
I enjoy working in situations where different perspectives converge. By listening, organizing, and connecting, space is created for a shared direction that is supported by all involved.
My role is often that of a sparring partner, process facilitator, or subject matter advisor. In this context, the focus is not on the design as the end product, but on the process that leads to a feasible and meaningful solution.
Where my contribution is of value
Guidance in the early design phase, in which ambitions, program, and context are explored and translated into a clear starting point for the design.
Idea
Substantive reflection and collaborative thinking with clients and design teams regarding spatial choices, coherence, and positioning of projects.
Concept
Substantive guidance of the design process in preliminary and final design, with attention to quality, feasibility, and consistency in the execution.
Design
Structuring and guiding complex or multidisciplinary projects, with an eye for the coherence between design, engineering, and execution.
Director
Support with project starts and design and decision-making processes, focused on clarity, progress, and effective collaboration.
Process

One of my clients is Van den Berg Architecten, where I am involved in design quality, process, and strategic issues. Additionally, through MEROVING Architecten, I work on projects arising from collaborations and personal networks.
MEROVING Architecten is deliberately organized on a small scale. This creates space for attention, meticulousness, and custom work in every commission.
My work is fueled in part by a broad interest in other cultures and ways of working. Through international collaborations and involvement in projects outside the Netherlands, I have learned how context, customs, and decision-making influence design and process.
I view traveling and exploring cities and places together as a way to share insights, deepen conversations, and place issues in a broader perspective.
Internationale context

Stewardship
In my work, I am guided by a deep sense of responsibility for what has been entrusted to us by God in creation. This is expressed in attention to people, careful handling of resources, and respect for the environment.
In practice, this means that I look for ways to prevent waste — not only of materials and energy, but also of time, attention, and talent in design and collaboration. By making conscious choices and simplifying processes, space is created for sustainable and feasible solutions.
Involvement
In addition to my work as an architect, I am active in administrative and societal roles. This involvement keeps me sharp on how decisions play out in practice and what they mean for the people affected by them. I bring the experience I gain there into my work: handling responsibility carefully, collaborating clearly, and keeping an eye on the long-term consequences.
